Why choose me as your therapist?

Beyond my professional education, a few things have shaped me to be the therapist that I am today.  I have over 20 years of experience working with families of children with challenging behaviors, including autism, sensory processing disorders, ADHD, learning disabilities and medical problems. Growth through pain in my personal life has helped me to see hope in difficult seasons and build on my compassion for people. I have personal and professional experience in the areas of infertility, losing a child, and raising a neuro-divergent child. My continued professional learning and training in research-based therapies is of much value to help me help you meet your goals.  I have the heart to help you heal! I have the courage to challenge you in becoming who you were made to be! I have the training and experience to help you transform yourself and your relationships! I would love to help you move forward in your life!

How do I work?

I consider each individual, couple, or family’s unique personality, situation, and style when I work. I want you to feel accepted, supported, and encouraged.

I want you to feel hope and see real change in your life. In our therapy work together, you can count on me being real, and that I’ll help you feel safe to do the same.

I will encourage you to work on some assignments and practice certain skills in between our counseling sessions.

It is never my intent to make therapy drawn out.

We will take the time you need, not more and not less. Together, we will determine the frequency and duration of therapy that will be right for you.

A bit about me outside of my work as a therapist.

I enjoy spending time with my husband and children.  My husband and I met in high school and dated for seven years before we got married. We’ve been married for 27 years and have two children.  We enjoy camping, hiking, skiing, and tennis.  Beyond my professional education, a few things have shaped me to be the therapist that I am today.  I have over 20 years of experience working with families of children with challenging behaviors, including autism, sensory processing disorders, ADHD, learning disabilities and medical problems. We own a 5 yr old wild mustang from the Warm Springs Reservation which my daughter has trained and uses in her high school equestrian team.  In addition, we volunteer with  the Guide Dogs of the Blind and are being trained as puppy raisers and sitters.  Animals are emotional creatures and it's so fulfilling to engage with them and learning from them.

I love reading and learning new things.  I enjoy finding new healthy and tasty recipes and feeding my friends and family.

About Restoring Minds Counseling

Restoring Minds Counseling (RMC) uses a unique and individualized approach to treatment by helping you discover the root cause of your symptoms. Often there are multiple contributors. We help you by looking at four areas that make up who we are as a person: biological, psychological, social, and spiritual.

Biological

Science is rapidly discovering that there is a direct connection between what we eat (our gut health) and our mental and emotional health. Lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, fresh air, sleep, hydration, and much more all contribute to whether a person is mentally healthy with a strong brain reserve or unhealthy with a low brain reserve.

Psychological

Our self-talk directly impacts our mood, self-esteem, and ability to manage stress. Automatic negative thoughts can plague our minds and lead to anxiety, depression, and struggles handling stress. In addition, our upbringing—the patterns we learn in our childhood, traumatic events, past successes or failures, grief, and loss—greatly impact our mental and even physical health.

Social and Relational

If you feel a positive connection to family, friends, and your community and you surround yourself with people who are mentally and physically healthy and stable, then you will be able to manage stress and traumas more easily. But many of us have moved away from our family and close friends, or maybe our family isn’t healthy, safe, or trustworthy. In addition, our fast-paced and disconnected lives make it difficult for many to make new friends. Loneliness is increasing, bringing with it depression and despair. Our intimate and romantic relationships also contribute to our sense of success or failure. At RMC, we will help you assess your sense of support and community, your relationship health, your finances, work or school, and your successes and failures. We will help you to create goals and take steps to become more connected, trustful, and confident in your social connections and your intimate relationships.

Spiritual

Humans are spiritual beings. This can be expressed and felt in our connection to God and to our sense of meaning and purpose. It molds our values and morals. It grounds us to understand why our lives matter and who we are accountable to and why. Without a spiritual connection, many people feel a sense of underlying despair and meaninglessness. Whether you consider yourself religious or not, we can help you to find meaning and purpose in your life. Many people have had negative interactions and even traumas with religion or religious people in their lives. We can help you to process these difficult subjects and help you to feel more connected to God in a way that is healthy and balanced. Maybe you are religious and want a therapist that will honor your beliefs and values. At RMC, we will listen to your concerns and needs. We will honor what is important to you in your journey with God.
